Multifamily waste management in San Francisco County
Porter service, hauler bill audits, and SB 1383 compliance for multifamily communities in San Francisco, from apartments to affordable housing.

How we work in San Francisco County
Green Glove Heroes runs the waste operation at multifamily communities across San Francisco, from apartments to affordable housing. Recology still does the collecting. Our full-time crews sort trash, recycling, and organics on-site Sunday through Friday, and we audit your hauler bill and keep your building in line with the rules San Francisco enforces.
What San Francisco asks of your property
San Francisco is one city and one county, and its Mandatory Recycling and Composting Ordinance has been on the books since 2009. As the owner, you need enough refuse service to hold everything your building puts out, and you provide color-coded containers your tenants can use: green for compost, blue for recycling, and black or gray for trash. SB 1383 sits on top of that.
Bigger buildings answer to the Refuse Separation Ordinance too. If your account has a roll-off compactor or puts out 40 cubic yards or more of uncompacted refuse a week, the city audits your sorting every three years (compacted volume counts three times over). Fail an audit and you're ordered to bring in a Zero Waste Facilitator for at least 24 months. For 100% affordable housing properties, that rule took effect July 1, 2021.
How we keep you there
Every porter is trained on the Zero Waste requirements of the jurisdiction where they work. Our crews are in your building six days a week sorting all three streams before Recology's truck shows up, and we photograph and date each visit, which is the record you want in hand if an audit comes around. When the city has something to say about your property, we deal with it, and we fix what the zero-waste staff find on-site.
